Hand Painted Kitchen - Watchet, West Somerset

Posted on 31/05/21

This was a hand painted kitchen project at a property on the outskirts of the quaint coastal harbour town of Watchet, West Somerset. Located 9 miles from Minehead and 15 miles from Taunton, the town sits inbetween Exmoor and the Quantock Hills. Famed for it's fossil hunting, enthusiastists travel to Watchet in search of ancient Ammonites, Bi Valves and Devils Toenails to add to their collections.

The kitchen was in good order and was well looked after therefore it only had minor damage to repair and make good during the preparation stages.

The doors and drawers were of nice quality oak but overall the kitchen was looking tired and in need of a facelift and modernising.

The client had asked if the tiles could be painted rather than replaced. With adequate preparation tiles can be painted in the same manor as the rest of the kitchen, so this was not a problem. So instead of tearing the tiles off the walls and installing a new splashback the tiles were thoroughly cleaned, sanded, filled, caulked, primed and painted. This saved the clients the added expense of having the whole area re-tiled and so very cost effective.

Colours chosen were from Farrow & Ball - Farrow's Cream for the kitchen units and Little Greene - French Grey Mid for the tiles. Both colours were colour matched to high quality Tikkurila primers and topcoats which are very well suited for use on kitchens and furniture painting projects.

This is what the client had to say.......

"Stu took extreme care and showed great professionalism in creating a lovely new look to my kitchen. His workmanship was of a really high quality and the finsh excellent. The materials he used were excellent and the colours brilliant! I would highly recommend Progressive Painting".
